Review
I enjoyed the same author’s other book, “The Finished Person,” so I decided to read this one next.
The protagonist, who continues to polish her appearance even at age 70, delivers unique and entertaining scathing remarks about the women her age around her, making this a book worth enjoying on its own merits.
Not only that, but the shocking truth that her husband had another family after his death was a mind-blowing development.
Hana’s strong way of life as a woman is invigorating, and the portrayal of the people around her is also very interesting.
The phrase that made the biggest impression on me was “Live with ease,” a phrase that Hana’s husband was fond of.
These phrases were so ingrained in the household that they were even hung as a hanging scroll, and I imagine they must have given her strength, especially in difficult times. There are always times in life when things don’t go well. Difficulties, big or small, come quite frequently. At times like those, the phrase “Live with ease” is very encouraging, and wishing strongly to be like that can give you energy.
I feel like this story is teaching us just how important the phrase “Live with ease” is.
