Synopsis
After graduating from university, the protagonist, Yusuke, moves to Tokyo and begins working for a company, pursuing his dream of starting his own business. He works tirelessly, chasing the “image of success”—the ideal life, a cool car, a home.
However, reality is harsh, his efforts go unrewarded, and his dreams become increasingly distant. One day, Yusuke receives a thick letter from his father. It contains five teachings and three methods that Yusuke must truly embrace in his future life.
- Don’t compare yourself to others
- There’s no such thing as stability
- Don’t base your actions on money
- Choose a career that contributes to society
- The more failures you make, the closer you’ll become to success
And the three methods for achieving success are: - Invest time
- Train your mind
- Train your heart
The story is divided into two parts: Chapter 1 describes Yusuke’s real-life struggles and setbacks, and Chapter 2 imparts his father’s philosophy of life through his letter. As the story progresses, not only Yusuke but the reader themselves will begin to reexamine their own way of life.
Thoughts
I consider this book more of a self-help book than a novel.
The five teachings contained in this book must be constantly kept in mind, or they will be overwritten by other information.
I understand the importance of these five teachings, but it is not easy to consistently live by them.
I have read this book many times.
And, little by little, I feel like I have been able to break out of the shell of common sense.
I feel that I want to continue to live my life with my own principles, never forgetting to be grateful for being born.
