LIFE SHIFT is a book that posits the “100-year life” as the new reality; it demonstrates the collapse of the traditional linear life model—”education → work → retirement”—and proposes a multi-stage approach to life design.

📘 Synopsis
In an era where lifespans reach 100 years, the model of retiring at 60 and living off a pension for the remaining 40 years is no longer viable.
Consequently, life is shifting toward a structure involving transitions between multiple stages.
Examples include: re-skilling, pursuing multiple careers, working independently, and periods of exploration. Sustaining such a long life requires more than just money;
three types of intangible assets become crucial:
Productive assets (skills, knowledge, networks), Vitality assets (health, family, friends), and Transformational assets (self-awareness, diverse networks, openness to new experiences). Life can be “redesigned” time and again.
To do so, re-skilling, restructuring one’s career, and taking on new challenges are essential.

1️⃣ The Collapse of the 3-Stage Life Model: The “education → work → retirement” model—based on an average lifespan of 70–80 years—is financially and psychologically unsustainable in a 100-year life.
It is impossible to fund 30–40 years of post-retirement life solely through pensions and savings.

2️⃣ Moving Toward a Multi-Stage Life: Life is shifting from a linear path to a structure involving transitions between multiple stages.
Examples: Explorer, Independent Producer, Portfolio Worker (juggling multiple jobs simultaneously).

3️⃣ The Importance of Intangible Assets: With increased longevity, “invisible assets” become paramount.
Productive assets (skills, reputation, networks), Vitality assets (health, family, friends), and Transformational assets (self-awareness, diverse networks, openness to new experiences).

4️⃣ Redesigning Life (Transitions): We live in an era where life involves multiple transformations.
“Transformational assets” are essential for this process.
Restructuring careers, re-skilling, and working independently are becoming the norm. ✍️ Reflections
Although some time has passed since this book was published, I feel its message remains valuable today.
It reinforced the importance of taking ownership of my own life decisions.
It reminded me once again that the era of spending one’s entire career at the first company one joins is over.
I have read this book several times and have even used its principles to guide my own career choices.
I believe it offers valuable insights for living a fulfilling life.
