Synopsis
The story is divided into multiple chapters, each featuring a different female protagonist. Though they vary in age and circumstances, they share a common bond: uncertainty about their future and past wounds.
- Mt. Myoko: Ritsuko, approaching 30 and still struggling with uncertainty about her upcoming marriage, embarks on a mountain climbing adventure with a colleague. In the mountains, she confronts her relationships with others and her true feelings, forcing her to make a decision.
- Mt. Hiuchi: Mitsuko, who experienced the economic boom, struggles with the gap between her past glory and her current, unassuming life. While climbing with a man she meets through a matchmaking service, she finds the courage to reveal her true self without putting on a show.
- Mt. Yari: Shinobu, who has enjoyed mountain climbing since childhood, challenges Mt. Yari again, harboring memories of her father and setbacks in her club activities. In her quest to reach the summit, she breaks away from the past and takes a new step.
The characters intersect in each chapter, loosely linking the stories together.
Review
- Contrast between Mountains and Life
The harshness and beauty of mountain climbing overlap with life’s choices and struggles, making each character resonate deeply with me. - Rebirth of Women
The film depicts women struggling with various issues, such as love, marriage, work, and family, rediscovering themselves and renewing themselves through the mountains.
Even when things don’t go well, I feel they can rediscover themselves and embark on a new life.
