Synopsis
- The protagonist, Satoshi Nakamoto, is a systems engineer working for an IT company. One day, his boss orders him to mine virtual currency (Bitcoin), and he begins mining on a server.
- His girlfriend, Noriko Takubo, is 37 and works for a foreign securities firm. She previously aborted a child with a chromosomal abnormality, and is tormented by guilt.
- His colleague, Nimuro, had aspired to be a novelist, but his dream was shattered, he fell into depression, and he was transferred to Nagoya. He continues to send the protagonist his “useless airplane collection” and his own novels.
Thoughts
The story depicts the loss of humanity, with the protagonist crying regardless of his emotions and Takubo unable to sleep without medication.
I believe that the evolution of AI has led to a world where human replacements can be mass-produced in unlimited numbers.
What purpose should we live for?
Are we useless because we are inferior to AI in ability?
Through this book, I was able to understand what it means to be human and what the purpose of living as a human is.
I also feel that modern values are called into question through things like virtual currency, which “have value because someone wants it.”
We live in a convenient and peaceful world, and despite meeting all the conditions for happiness, many people feel unhappy.
I feel that this book sends out a philosophical message about what it means to be human.
