Synopsis

Tomoya, the protagonist, is a university student. He yearns for a life-changing trip, but has no experience traveling abroad.
His best friend, Natsuki, proposes a “restricted, almost entirely free trip.”
It’s a trip with no itinerary, minimal luggage, and no planned accommodations—a trip where you truly “think and act for yourself.”
Natsuki tells Tomoya that “travel helps people grow,” and conveys the true essence of travel to him.
He explains that the purpose of travel is to “turn as many 0s as possible into 1s.”
Tomoya travels alone to a world with a different language and culture, experiencing a series of encounters, challenges, and coincidences.
In the process, he discovers his own potential, courage, and the meaning of life’s journey.

Review

  • Freedom lies in the midst of restriction.
Travels that don’t go as planned often lead to unexpected encounters and realizations.
We are surrounded by information. As a result, I, too, tend to prioritize planning. However, I believe that having some kind of limitation can sometimes reduce our worries when we take action.
    ・Encounters bring about miracles
This book teaches us that encounters with people have a major impact on our lives. Indeed, problems that cannot be solved by spending time alone can sometimes be easily resolved by meeting someone.
    ・Experience is the greatest asset
Things and money disappear when you spend them, but the experiences you gain from traveling can be used over and over again.
I, too, want to embrace every experience positively.
The courage to take a step forward can change your life.
Rather than calculating or thinking about gains and losses, “acting when you feel it” can open up a future beyond your imagination.
I also believe that living a life of overthinking without taking action is the most regrettable way to live.
